College 101: Restraint Helps Fight Freshman Weight Gain

Summary


One of the things about college I was directly warned about was something known as the "freshman 15," those average 15 pounds freshmen commonly gain during their first year away from the restraint of Mom and Dad. While I agree it is something that happens, as meal plans and the temptation to drink your way straight to a beer belly loom in college, I found that there are far more ways to deter weight gain than to fall victim to it.

As an athlete coming out of high school, I have always been in fairly good shape, but it has been far from a priority of mine to continue working out. Basically, I feel that I did that enough in my high school days, and now is my time to relax athletically. However, if I do feel inclined to work out, as do the majority of former athletes in college, there is no shortage of means for me to do so.
