Social-conservative Republican state legislators held a news conference Monday to discuss a package of bills to encourage and strengthen marriage. But they were confronted by a crowd of activists who wanted to know why the lawmakers oppose the benefits of marriage for same-sex couples.
Republican Sens. Bill Sharer of Farmington and Mark Boitano of Albuquerque were approached by gay-rights activists outside the Capitol after the news conference.
