Question: My wife's mother moved in with us about two years ago. When her mother began to forget to pay her bills and to get lost at the grocery store, my wife thought she could care for her mother better than any stranger in a nursing home. Since then, my mother- in-law has slowly gotten more forgetful and increasingly demanding of our attention.

We love her very much, but she has changed so much in a few short years that we both are becoming exhausted trying to cater to her every need. And when we leave her alone for even short periods of time, we're worried about her starting a fire or just hurting herself. So we have begun to price nursing homes and found we cannot put three children through college and pay for a nursing home without remortgaging our home along with making huge budget cutbacks.
