Santa Fe speeding fines would be doubled, with the extra money going to traffic-calming devices on city streets, under a plan recommended Tuesday by the city Public Safety Committee.

Committee vice chairman Michael Trujillo said the increased fines should send a clear message in the wake of the deaths of two Santa Fe teenagers in a wreck last week near the intersection of Zia and Rodeo roads.
