Down the Street: 'Ant' Paints Life with Broad Strokes

Summary


Under a night sky, a small fire meant to warm a busy farmer lights up a field of corn stalks in Tesuque Pueblo. Water from an acequia flows onto the crops as two women walk toward the fire with bundles of wood in their arms. The farmer irrigates the corn in the early hours to conserve water that might be lost under the gaze of the glaring sun.

This is one of the images Tesuque Pueblo's Lt. Gov. Anthony Dorame paints from memory. The farmer is his grandfather, Martin Vigil. Dorame brings to life images he remembers from growing up on the pueblo.
