Exhibitionism a Peek at What's Showing Around Town

Summary

Will Karp: Multiplicity 105, inkjet print, 2010. Each division in Will Karp's piece is a photograph of natural or man-made elements, whose origins are purposely obscure. Assembled, they form a work with no single focal point -- the eye travels over the surface looking for a place to rest. Karp's photographic composites can be seen in Multiplicity -- A Passion for Patterns. The exhibit opens with a 5 p.m. reception on Thursday, April 1, at Tybie Davis Satin Gallery, Santa Fe Public Library, 145 Washington St. (955-6780). There is another chance to meet the artist at 2 p.m. on April 4. (Madeleine Nicklin)

Neal Ambrose-Smith: Abstract in Your Home, 2009, neon. Magritte, Kurt Schwitters, and Juan Gris effectively used text in their artwork. Neal Ambrose-Smith acknowledges his art-history roots and is not afraid to appropriate ideas. When he stumbled upon a neon piece from the '70s by Pier Paolo Calzolari, a triangle with text, he saw a tepee. Ambrose-Smith's wry transformation of the work can be seen in the exhibit A New Dawn at Golden Dawn Gallery (201 Galisteo St.). Gallery owner and artist Margarete Bagshaw opens the space to a group of international artists working in oil, ceramics, prints, acrylics, and installation. A 5 p.m. reception is scheduled for Friday, March 26. The gallery is at 201 Galisteo St., 988-2024. (M.N.)
