The Grass Is Always Bluer On the Old-Time Side

Summary

The Santa Fe Traditional & Bluegrass Music Festival is a yearly gathering of the faithful that seeks to bridge the great divide that often separates old-time purists from newfangled bluegrassers. For this year's 33rd annual festival -- from Friday through Sunday, Aug. 24 to 26, at the Santa Fe County Fairgrounds -- the Southwest Traditional and Bluegrass Music Association booked bands of every stripe, calling them in from the national, regional, and local scenes to entertain during the daily main-stage concerts.

As in the past, thesex concerts will be augmented by open jam sessions, workshops, contests, and competitions in all instrumental categories (including both established groups and pick-up bands created by drawing names from a hat), and a Sunday morning gospel hour. Camping is free on the fairgrounds. The full schedule can be seen at www.southwestpickers.org.
