Plenty: Some form of potato still a mainstay at almost every Irish meal
When I began consulting on the late, lamented Irish tavern, Rooney's, I thought little more about Irish cuisine than corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes, green beer and Lucky Charms. In other words, I didn't take it seriously. What has Ireland contributed to world cuisine? Soda bread? That dry, giant biscuit is better used for a doorstop than a comestible, I thought. Perhaps I had been unduly prejudiced against Irish food by reading James Joyce's Ulysses and having one of its lines bounce around in my head for the past 30 years or so.
