RE: "Is this 2007or 1929?" by Joseph Badal in the October issue: There's a saying in media that, "If it bleeds, it leads." I guess you've figured that one out. I hoped you would provide some encouraging words to our real-estate friends and offer some hope rather than only highlighting problems and pointing to such an inappropriate reference as the "Great Depression." Not only are we not in a depression, we are not in a recession. (A recession is defined as two consecutive fiscal quarters of negative economic growth.)
It's not all bad news out there. In fact, I'm busier now than I was a year ago. I have a friend who recently interviewed three brokers before listing his property. The first broker said he shouldn't list until after the anticipated turnaround in the spring. The second said he'd never seen such a horrible market. The third indicated the market was turning positive and produced a link to seven under-contract properties on his public web site.
