Letters to the Editor Inspecting Cars Is Better Use of Time

Summary

In a world where one can get a driver's license in another country without the requirement of residency, I fail to see why the governor is wasting time and money in a special session for this discussion. A better use of our Legislature's time would be to enact annual vehicle inspections for emissions, lights, blinkers, horn and mirrors.

It would be a great source of revenue (as nearly all other states have found) and would ensure added safety for New Mexico citizens. Just yesterday, I saw a Santa Fe Fire Department ambulance with only one headlight; just imagine how much worse it is in the private sector. The Legislature's time is short, and there are much bigger fish to fry than driver's licenses for noncitizens.
