Summary


Marvin Hamlisch was about to turn in his baton for a pith helmet when Pasatiempo caught up with him by phone to talk about his appearance in Santa Fe. Saying he rarely takes a vacation, the conductor/composer was just about to head out the door to South Africa for a little rest and relaxation. Then he'll hit Santa Fe with his two-person show -- the other person being singer J. Mark McVey -- at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the Lensic Performing Arts Center.

The Oscar-, Tony-, Emmy- and Grammy-winning Hamlisch broke into the big time 40 years ago with the pop hit "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows." He really hasn't left the spotlight since. Among his stage and screen credits: A Chorus Line, Sweet Smell of Success: The Musical, The Sting, The Way We Were. And he co-wrote the hit song "Nobody Does It Better" from the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me.
