Movie Review: 'The Corpse Bride' Is Fun Throwback

Summary


Animation has gotten more realistic and more computer-created in recent years. Thankfully, Tim Burton's new film, The Corpse Bride, is a throwback to the animation of yesteryear, with its stop-motion animation straight out of Burton's The Nightmare before Christmas. And it is a good throwback.

The Corpse Bride tells the story of a young man, Victor Van Dort (voiced by an ever-charming Johnny Depp), whose wealthy, fish- merchant parents (Tracey Ullman and Paul Whitehouse) arrange for him to be married to a girl he doesn't know. Fortunately, the girl, Victoria Everglot (Emily Watson) and Victor fall madly in love at first sight. It seems that the business-proposition wedding is going to be a great event after all.
