Summary
The City of Santa Fe information blurb reads dryly, a little mysteriously, and not quite correctly: "The Mayor's Recognition Awards were started in 1989 as a means of acknowledging living individuals, organizations, and corporations that have made outstanding contributions to the arts in Santa Fe." But even though it should more properly be worded "living individuals and existing organizations and corporations," the meaning is clear enough. Many people and groups help make Santa Fe the arts mecca that it thinks it is and that it deserves to be, and those people, in turn, deserve public recognition. Past recipients of the prestigious honor read like a Who's Who, Who's Where, or What's What of City Different life.
This year's awardees are artist and writer Andrea "Drew" Bacigalupa; Bob Martin, general manager of the Lensic Performing Arts Center; community volunteer and arts patron Eileen Wells; the Lannan Foundation; and the Santa Fe Community Orchestra. Alima Rose Lopez is the recipient of the Melissa Engestrom Youth Artist Award, named in honor of the deceased arts administrator and Santa Fe arts commissioner. The awardees will be honored at a dinner ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at La Fonda.See the full content of this document
