A Zuni cow kachina described as "one of the all-time great dolls," was stolen Tuesday from a locked case at the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos.
Two men, one wearing a baseball cap and the second a cowboy hat, jimmied the lock with a pocket knife, reached over other dolls and grabbed the cow kachina while staff members were at lunch. According to executive director Shelby Tisdale, the theft occurred at about 1:15 p.m. She said a security camera in the gallery caught both men on tape.
