Summary


Richard Gaddes, general director of the Santa Fe Opera, was first hired by SFO founder John Crosby in 1969 as the company's artistic administrator. From 1976 through 1985, he was founder and director of Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and then active in revitalizing that city's midtown arts district as chief executive of St. Louis' Grand Center.

A decade ago, Gaddes returned to SFO as vice-chairman of the capital campaign for the new theater. He was named Crosby's successor in the wings in 1998 and assumed the helm when Crosby retired at the end of the 2000 season.
