Summary


I urge the governor-elect not to approve moving forward create a state government "supercomplex" at Las Soleras. Business owners in Santa Fe, property owners and employees off all kinds should be opposed to this deal.

Santa Fe doesn't attract the type of businesses to absorb the large amount of office space that would become vacant. Empty offices downtown mean people aren't eating lunch at local restaurants or shopping at local shops. If downtown loses its vitality, tourists stop visiting, which impacts the state gross receipts tax. It's Santa Fe that's mentioned in Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, etc. and it's the main draw for New Mexico, which relies heavily on tourism. If gross receipts taxes diminish, more jobs are lost, property values go down, and you get the picture. This is a terrible idea.
