It's that time of year when Hollywood scrapes the bottom of the barrel and releases the dregs. Most of the movies turned out by the big studios in the first months of the year are the less-thans, also- rans and wanna-bes - the poor relations of the sleek, glamorous films unveiled with great fanfare at year's end in hopes of garnering a coveted nod from the mighty Oscar.
But even with the taint of its inauspicious release date, there were good reasons to think The Big Bounce might have more than a little rubber in it. It's an adaptation of an Elmore Leonard novel, like one of the best of its crime-caper genre, Get Shorty, which probed the seamy side of Hollywood with a wickedly humorous slant; it's located in Hawaii, never a bad place to be in February; it stars Morgan Freeman, Gary Sinise and Bebe Neuwirth - no slackers in the acting department; and it features Owen Wilson, who's cute in a quirky sort of way, as if you took Robert Redford and tweaked him a bit and stuck a big nose on his face.See the full content of this document
