Concert programmers tend to be grateful for composer birth and death anniversaries, and not just for the chance to pay artistic tribute. If the composer in question is popular with audiences, it's a good bet the hall will be full, which pleases both the administrative and musical sides of an organization. And since few composers are as generally popular as Johann Sebastian Bach, we tend to see (and hear) an upsurge of interest in his works this time every year. Not that that's regrettable.
