Up, Up and Away: Santa Fe Hill Climb Race Sunday

Summary


Maybe the rusted-out muffler on my old Honda is too loud, but I've never heard the babbling of a roadside stream from within my car. And the tired four-cylinder engine could be to blame, but I've never arrived atop any mountain in the car with a politician's election-time grin plastered to my face. When pedaling a bike, however, it's a different story.

This Sunday is the Santa Fe Hill Climb bike race, which is as good an excuse as any to dust off the road bike and work your way up to the ski lodge. You race in one of five categories, or just ride up at a less-harried pace with some friends before the event and watch the racers come through. Either way, you'll enjoy the aforementioned babbling brook, beautiful vistas, fresh smells of pine and aspen and earth, and after the race is over, a screaming or leisurely descent back down the mountain.
