My View: Artists Need a Space Apart --- for Sharing

Summary


Regarding the June 3 article, "Arts center on the drawing board":

The need for a beehive, or hub, or incubator for artists is commonly voiced by the creative community in Santa Fe. The proposed center would be addressing the needs of artists as they create their art. Many people probably think that the gallery or selling venue is the only critical need for an artist, but the space to create is equally (if not more) important. Every other creative city in the country has a hub where artists have affordable, or subsidized work studios situated alongside each other, and the artists can share ideas and support each other through the unique process of bringing inspiration into form. The work spaces are distinct from their homes, and from the gallery spaces. They are meant for exploration, creativity, experimentation, collaboration and inventiveness (not to mention saw dust, paint fumes and bags of wet clay!).
