My View: Zozobra Burning Safe, Family-Oriented Event

Every now and then something bad happens in our town. When bad things happen around the time of Santa Fe's annual Fiesta, whether at the Plaza, or at public or private events associated with Fiesta, newspaper headlines scream "Zozobra violence." Stories about the incidents invariably refer to the perpetrators as "Zozobra" criminals.

The latest example was in the June 19 article, "Friend says man's slaying is a shock to everyone," which referred to a shooting suspect's previous crime as "a post-Zozobra shooting," even though the violence occurred at a private party and had nothing to do with the event.
