Study: Higher-paying states better off - Raising the minimum wage above the federal wage floor has not hurt job growth in 12 states that have done so since 1997, according to a study released Wednesday by supporters of a proposal to boost New Mexico's minimum wage to $7.50 an hour.

Those states also tend to have lower poverty rates than states - such as New Mexico - that have the same minimum wage as the federal rate of $5.15 an hour, the analysis said. Thursday, A-1
