Public Works: Hydrology Bureau Chief Awarded

Summary


Not long before he retired at the end of March after 27 years with the Office of the State Engineer, Hydrology Bureau chief Tom Morrison was honored with his department's prestigious Earth Science Achievement Award. The award recognizes Morrison for, among other things, serving as a key player in developing the water-resource assessments used in New Mexico's first-ever state water plan. His colleagues also cited his contribution as the technical lead in developing several basin-administration areas around the state and his years of directing important groundwater investigations, assessments and evaluations. Morrison earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from The University of New Mexico in 1978 and joined the Office of the State Engineer not long afterward. In 1989, he was promoted to bureau chief, where he headed a staff of 13.
