Summary


Parviz Eftekhari, an advanced civil engineer in the Transportation Department's Transportation Planning and Design Division, could find the old hat fitting a bit more snugly if he's heard the comments his co-workers recently made about him. In nominating him as one of three department employees of the month for October, his colleagues described him as "dependable, dedicated to his job, hard working and a very supportive supervisor." Also "knowledgeable, present, courteous and highly committed to excellence." Other co-workers called Eftekhari "honest and forthright" and said he produced "very high quality work" and had a "great sense of humor."

Melvin Ortiz, a tester/sorter in the Materials Lab, was named top employee in the Highway Operations Division. His boss, Susan Gallaher, sees him as the "heart and soul" of the lab's Geotech Design Section. Always willing to put in overtime to get the job done, Ortiz also can always be counted on to travel around the state to construction sites, Gallaher said. "He does the work of two people with a smile and a great attitude," she said.
